Let the web read itself to you.
VoiceReader is a free Chrome extension that reads any web page aloud in natural voices — highlighting each sentence as it goes and remembering exactly where you left off. Premium neural voices, optional.
Reading is one option. Sometimes the page is better out loud.
A premium voice in your ear turns dead time into reading time — and gives your eyes, and your focus, a way through long text.
Hands full, eyes elsewhere
Cooking, commuting, walking the dog, folding laundry. Send the long read to your ears and listen the way you’d listen to a podcast — except it’s your own reading list.
Tired eyes
By evening your eyes are done. Close them and let a calm voice finish the article for you.
Focus & dyslexia
Hearing and seeing the same sentence — with the highlight following along — removes the decoding bottleneck and keeps your place.
Learning a language
Hear natural pronunciation and rhythm on real web pages, not canned phrases. Read along as you listen.
Proofread by ear
Your eyes skip your own typos; your ears don’t. Paste your draft into a page and hear what you actually wrote.
Long reads, research, docs
Essays, papers, documentation, newsletters. VoiceReader finds the article and skips the menus, sidebars, and footers — then reads just the part you came for, picking up where you stopped.
Three clicks from any page to audio.
Select or “read page”
Highlight a passage and right-click, or hit read to take the whole article. VoiceReader figures out what’s actually content.
Press play, follow along
A clean in-page bar appears. Each sentence highlights as it’s spoken; change voice or speed mid-read without missing a beat.
Pick up where you left off
Close the tab, come back tomorrow — VoiceReader remembers your spot on that page and resumes from there.
A free reader you’ll actually use — and an upgrade with no tricks.
No teaser “free trials” that quietly bill you, no buried cancel button. The free tier is genuinely useful on its own.

The anti-Speechify stance: a clear line between free and paid, and billing you can trust. We’d rather you keep using the free tier than feel tricked into Pro.
We log how features are used — never what you read.
Free reading is processed on your own device by Chrome’s speech engine, so the page text never reaches us. We collect anonymous product events (like “started reading”) with a random ID — no page content, no browsing history, no selling data. Premium playback sends only the specific text you choose to read aloud, to synthesize it.

Is VoiceReader free?
Yes. VoiceReader reads any web page aloud for free using your device’s built-in voices — unlimited, with no account and no API keys. Premium lifelike neural voices are an optional paid upgrade starting around $7/month.
Do I need an API key or a sign-up?
No. Free reading works the moment you install the extension — no keys to paste, no account to create. You only provide an email if you buy Pro and want to restore it after reinstalling.
Does it highlight the text as it reads?
Yes — each sentence highlights as it’s spoken so you can follow along, which is especially helpful for focus, dyslexia, and language learning. It also remembers where you left off on each page and resumes from there.
Can it read PDFs and long articles?
It reads the readable content of web pages and finds the article body automatically, skipping menus, sidebars, and footers. For long reads it remembers your position so you can listen across sessions.
Is my data private?
Free reading is processed entirely on your device — the page text is never sent to us. We log anonymous product events only, never page content. Premium neural playback sends just the text you choose to read to our server (and our TTS provider) to generate audio. See the privacy policy.
How is it different from Speechify or Read Aloud?
VoiceReader sits in the gap between robotic free readers and expensive premium ones: genuinely usable free on-device voices with no sign-up, plus honest, flat-priced premium neural voices and no dark-pattern billing — cancel anytime.
Which browsers does it support?
VoiceReader is a Chrome (Manifest V3) extension. Other Chromium-based browsers may work, but Chrome is the supported target today.
Give your eyes the evening off.
Install VoiceReader and let the next long read come to you — out loud, in a voice you actually like.
